Things to do in Los Angeles: Thanksgiving Week
25 Nov 2013

Thanksgiving is a time for family, but what happens when family is a town, state or country away? This is the case for many of Los Angeles’ diverse dwellers. That is why we have compiled a list of three great holiday occasions happening this week. These events are a must for those who will be away from their loved ones. They are even great options for families wanting to experience something different this holiday season.

The first option is Gobble Gobble Give 2013, a huge community potluck dedicated to aiding the homeless on the Thanksgiving holiday. Guests are encouraged to bring heated food, cold-weather clothes, toiletry kits, and anything helpful to the homeless. For 10 years, Gobble Gobble Give has provided meals and goods to the needy over 5 cities, and Los Angeles welcomes inhabitants to support. Visit their website to RSVP and volunteer!

The second option, Tour de Taste, takes place on November 30th, is a fundraiser and bicycle race in the heart of Los Angeles State Historic Park. Elite bikers will brave a perplexing bike course (with a perilous mud pit!) and fight for a spot in the national tournament. Novice bikers can have their fun in the hours leading up to the race. Other activities at this event are a beginners clinic, a bike-decorating contest, and a 5k Fun Run. The Tour de Taste Thanksgiving food festival will begin in the evening, catered by restaurants in the surrounding area. All proceeds will be donated to L.A. County Bicycle Coalition. The cost is $10 for members and racers, $20 for spectators.

The third option is the Rose Bowl’s Tofurky Trot this Thursday. The Rose Bowl invites guests this Thanksgiving to support both the health and vitality of local communities by running a 5k. It will also raise money for local groups supporting plant-based diets. Guests will run to mainly support the National Museum of Animals & Society, the first museum of its kind dedicated to enriching the lives of animals and people. The walk is open to all levels of physical fitness and diet lifestyles, but don’t expect to find any carnivorous snacks! Participants will be given goody bags, vegan snacks and drinks, and the opportunity to win random prize drawings. The cost is $25 for pre-registration and $30 for on-site registration.

Take a friend, or two or three, and make it an adventure! Of course, make it extra special by relaxing afterward at a luxury home rental from Luca&Luca.
